Our story

Our Trelowen flower farm is a small-scale cut flower farm and floristry business, forming part of Orchard Park’s cluster of smallholdings.

Trelowen

The name “Trelowen” is Cornish for “Place of Joy,” and it perfectly reflects our vision for the farm. At Trelowen flower farm, we aim to create a joyful and abundant space where people, plants, and wildlife thrive together. Every aspect of our work — from planting and harvesting to arranging floristry bouquets — reflects our commitment to sustainability, care, and ecological stewardship.

A smallholding

Our flower farm

Trelowen flower farm benefits from collaboration with fellow stewards. We share knowledge, tools, and resources while supporting each other in implementing regenerative farming practices. This cooperative approach ensures that our farm remains resilient, productive, and deeply connected to the surrounding community.

Our flower farm integrates organic and permaculture principles. At Trelowen flower farm, we focus on soil health, biodiversity, and responsible cultivation techniques. By prioritizing sustainable growing methods, we ensure that every stem we produce is of the highest quality, while minimizing environmental impact.

Beyond growing flowers, Trelowen flower farm serves as an educational and inspirational space. We welcome volunteers, visitors, and florists to experience the farm, learn about regenerative practices, and appreciate the beauty of working with nature. Through workshops, tours, and community events, we share our knowledge and passion for ethical flower farming.

The Pivot

Life before flowers

From stage management to motherhood: this was a major pivot for Tamsin. Tamsin was taking on the world as a single mother with Ellie (now Dr Ellie PhD, happily married), when we first met and we shared a love of flowers and gardening then. Married after six months. Our new family of three quickly became a family of five in those early years–with the birth of our two boys, now also in their early twenties. And our garden and allotments were tended

Fast forward to Tamsin’s discovery of floristry, before the world was turned on its head with COVID. Hooked and in love with flowers, Tamsin worked as a freelance florist for a bespoke florist company and developed a cutting garden for a boutique hotel. Numerous weddings and private clients, have led her to see our field now as her natural studio, a palette of colours and shapes for her new bouquet and wedding work.

Wayne was transitioning from life as a graphic designer from London—and recovering in the garden before pivoting into garden design. The garden design pivoted back to graphic design and branding with two design studios over the following decades. An offer to swap two days in the studio for two days working with a social and therapeutic garden charity, proved the catalyst for the bigger adventure that followed. The call back to land based activities found its purpose in Trelowen. Our place of Joy here in Cornwall.
